European Parliament, Brussels | 2nd May 2016
On May 2nd, a delegation of 40 Croatian firefighters will call on EU institutions to take action to guarantee fire safety of firefighters and citizens.
EU citizens spend approximately 90% of their lives inside buildings, where they are increasingly surrounded by flammable goods and materials, which make fires behave differenty than just a few years ago. Firefighters play a crucial roles for our safety in case of fires, and face new challenges to rescue us. How is the EU protecting their health and safety? What support can Member States offer, and what do they need from the EU?
The firefighters will meet at the European Parliament with MEPs, European Commission officials and representatives from national and European firefighting associations, to discuss fire safety issues from a firefighter’s perspective and examine what EU institutions are doing to guarantee fire safety. The high-level discussion is hosted by the Croatian MEP and volunteer firefighter Marijana Petir, in collaboration with Fire Safe Europe.
On the following day, the delegation will visit Brussels firefighter’s headquarters to exchange experience and best practices.
