The European Parliament debated fire safety in buildings for the first time, after the the Grenfell Tower tragedy shed a harsh light on the issues linked to fire safety in buildings. As elected representatives of European citizens, it is a fundamental duty of Members of the European Parliament to enable people to be safe in their homes. Several MEPs spoke and requested rapid European Commission action on key policies that impact fire safety.

The Commission announced it would launch a platform to discuss fire safety in buildings and enable Member States to exchange dat and best practices.
